CNC Milling
When components are utilized in aerospace, defense, and medical industries, the difference between success and catastrophe is measured in microns. At LeanWerks, we recognize that CNC milling is not merely a subtractive process, but a highly capable precision manufacturing process that demands an engineering mindset. By utilizing advanced process engineering, Lean manufacturing principles, a holistic quality approach, and industry-leading machines, we create the most geometrically complex, flight-ready, and mission-critical hardware.
Industries like yours can not afford a point of failure, which is why we utilize total tolerance control to provide thousands of parts that have minimal deviations. Instead of shying away from complex projects, LeanWerks dives into projects with the most challenging materials like high-nickel alloys and hardened steels, and complex geometries typical in castings and forgings. Our company is built on the pillars of lean manufacturing, excellence in engineering and craftsmanship, and solid, holistic quality management, ensuring that your precision manufacturing requirements are of the highest quality and delivered reliably.
Advanced 5-Axis and Horizontal Milling Architectures
Our technical capabilities at LeanWerks are designed to serve a variety of industries and potential part designs. We handle the volatility of New Product Introduction (NPI) while scaling seamlessly into high-volume global programs. By utilizing simultaneous 5-axis milling, we eliminate errors inherent with multiple setups.
DMG MORI DMU 50, with its full 5-axis milling, eliminates stacking errors and allows our professionals to machine complex contoured surfaces, undercuts, and compound angles in a single orientation, ensuring absolute positional accuracy.
NHX 5000 Horizontal Machining Centers help achieve high-volume consistency. Our horizontal centers utilize integrated palletized systems that allow for continuous “lights-out” production and superior chip evacuation. This machine maintains tight tolerances across massive production runs, including hydraulic manifolds or nuclear-grade valves.
All of our milling platforms are engineered for high-torque applications and exotic materials. Whether we are interpolating threads in Inconel 718 or face-milling Hastelloy, the equipment at LeanWerks provides the dampening and rigidity required to achieve a proper surface finish. Avoid unnecessary secondary grinding with precise milling from our team.

Hard Milling
Our specialized expertise in hard milling allows us to machine materials in their hardened state (up to 68 Rc) and eliminate the dimensional distortion often caused by post-machining. Heat treatment often poses challenges for milled materials. Hard milling eliminates this distortion and allows us to hold a tolerance of ±0.0002” on even the most challenging geometries. Every milled component is subject to our advanced metrology suite, including the Keyence IM-8000 and high-precision CMMs, providing uncompromising quality.
Navigating the regulatory landscape of modern defense and aerospace requires more than just a sharp tool–it requires a robust Quality Management System. LeanWerks is fully AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 Certified, ensuring that all our processes meet the proper requirements of aviation, defense, nuclear, and other machining industries. LeanWerks has consistently been recognized as one of the most innovative manufacturers in America.
In addition to our aerospace credentials, our ISO 9001:2015 Registration, ITAR / DDTC Compliance, and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) demonstrate our commitment to continuous improvement and the security protocols required for sensitive military and defense contracts. When you work with LeanWerks, you are choosing a team that understands the weight of regulatory compliance and the necessity of national security protocols. Take advantage of our expertise to solve your most difficult manufacturing hurdles and bring your most ambitious designs to life with uncompromising accuracy.

Putting The Lean In LeanWerks
We truly honor the Lean part of our name by relentlessly pursuing perfection. To facilitate this continuous improvement, we utilize multiple lean tools, including:
- 6S
- Value Stream Mapping
- Visual Workplace
- Takt, Pull, Flow
- Single Minute Exchange of Cell
- Standardization
- Kaizen
One improvement we make whenever possible is using sophisticated automation to bridge the gap between human expertise and machine endurance. Our NHX 5000 horizontal centers are more than just standalone machines; they are nodes in an integrated production cell. We achieve a level of active readiness that other traditional shops can not match. LeanWerks can stage complex, high-priority aerospace jobs, recurring defense contracts, and maintain a continuous flow that minimizes idle time.
Automation is not about replacing the machinist; it is about liberating our master craftsman from mundane practices. Automating load/unload cycles allows us to focus on high-level technical challenges and optimizing tool paths. In a global economy where lead times are often the bottleneck for innovation. LeanWerks leverages this automated milling prowess to ensure precision and speed are not mutually exclusive. Trust our competitive advantage to build the world’s most critical infrastructure.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does LeanWerks handle the milling of thin-walled components?
Thin-walled aerospace parts are prone to vibration and deformation. We utilize specialized harmonic analysis and custom vacuum or hydraulic work-holding to stabilize the workpiece, allowing us to maintain wall thickness consistency and surface integrity without “chatter” or stress fractures.
Can you mill features that require specialized surface finishes?
Yes. Through high-speed machining (HSM) techniques and elite-level tooling selection, we routinely achieve Ra finishes that meet or exceed industry standards for sealing surfaces and friction-sensitive applications. Our profilometers provide documented verification of every surface texture requirement.
Do you support the milling of complex castings and forgings?
Absolutely. We specialize in the “proof-machining” and final precision milling of near-net-shape castings and forgings. Our 5-axis capabilities are ideal for establishing datum structures on irregular surfaces, ensuring that the final machined features are perfectly aligned with the internal grain structure of the material.
